Abuja’s Central Business District is an area that is carefully located between the foot of Aso Rock and into the Three Arms Zone to the southern base of a ring road.

As a matter of fact, it is planned to be the business hub of the city where all the parastatals and multinational corporations, shops, offices and stores are located. It is like the city's spinal cord, with Maitama and Wuse districts, dividing it into the northern sector and Garki and Asokoro areas flanking it at the southern sector.

Although, all the areas like Garki, Wuse, Asokoro and Maitama are for residential, the planners of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have designed the central area specifically for commercial purpose.

To this extent, the government had planned that buildings below five-storey should not be located in the area. Unfortunately the purpose of this area has not been achieved as even buildings as low as three storey now litter the area. It is, however, far from being the commercial nerve centre of the city because banks, hotels and other business concerns find place in various parts of the town, thus prompting the Mallam Nasir El-Rufai administration of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to impose a fine on the banks, hotels and companies that violated the law and the original plan of the city.

Important landmarks in the district include the Three Arms Zone, so called because it houses the administrative offices of the executive, legislative and judicial arms of the Federal Government.
Others are the magnificent Central bank of Nigeria building, Women Development Centre, the National Mosque, Ecumenical Centre, the Federal Secretariat alongside Shehu Shagari Way; Aso Hill, the Abuja Plant Nursery, Parade Square and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier across the road facing it. etc.
