A marital record was set in Calabar recently when a set
of Efik male twins wedded another set of Efik female twins in a glorious ceremony
which attracted the high and mighty in Cross River State.
The twin brothers,
Ene and Mkpang Cobham from Bakassi Local Government Area wedded to Mary and Juliet
Edet Ita who are from the neighbouring Akpabuyo Local Government Area.
The traditional marriage ceremony, which held in Esuk Mba in Akpabuyo LGA, climaxed
at a colourful church wedding at the Duke Town Presbyterian Church at Eyamba Street
in Calabar. The father of the brides told Daily Sun in Calabar
that when his daughters informed him of their intention to marry another set of
twins, he was excited and gave them his blessings.
At the Duke Town Presbyterian
Church where the couple tied their nuptial knots, the scenery was beautiful to
watch as the couples emerged in two chauffeur driven jeeps. The brides arrived
first, while the groom came in later, in an almost similar jeep, dressed in designers'
suits. In a sermon, the officiating minister, Rev. O. B. Ekpenyong reminded
the couples that marriage was a chaste institution, which requires every partner
to be faithful.
The ceremony took a last lap at the Hope Waddell Training
Institution, where the couples were treated to a grand reception. The twins,
Ene and Mkpang Cobham, said they were excited and that the marriage was a celebration
to honour their mother and mentor, Mary Mitchel Slessor, who stopped the killing
of twins in Calabar. |
