| Shake-up in the Army
• 3 new GOCs appointed

A shake-up has been effected in the leadership of the Nigerian
Army with the appointment of three new General Officers Commanding(GOC)
by the Military High Command.
They are Major-Generals Julius Sunday Oshanupin, immediate
past commander of the Guards Brigade Abuja, for 3 Division
Jos; Major General L.O. Jokotola, the Commandant, Nigeria
Army Corps of Artillery and School, Kontagora, for 1 Division
Kaduna and Major Gen. S.A. Atawodi, for 82 Division Enugu.
Daily Sun gathered that the list of the appointed generals
approved only on Tuesday by President Olusegun Obasanjo, also
has the names of other senior officers to head the various
units of the Nigerian Army.
The appointments, which take effect from July 10, also has
Major-General L.K.F Aprezi as the Commandant, Training And
Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Minna, while the erstwhile commandant,
Major-General Festus Okonkwo, moves to Defence Headquarters
as Chief of Training and Operations (CTOPs). Major-General
Adoga is the new commander Army Headquarters Garrison (AHQ),
Abuja. Major-General Tache, formerly of the Department of
Peace-Keeping Operations at the DHQ, is now the Commandant,
Nigerian Army Artillery Corps and School, Kontagora, while
Major-General Abdulrahaman is the Chief of Operations Army
(COPS), at the Army Headquarters, (AHQ).
Others are Major-General Sanni Saleh, former Principal General
Staff Officer to the Minister of Defence, as commandant of
the Nigerian Army Corps of Engineers, Major-General Amedu,
now in charge of Department of Army Standards and Evaluation
(DASE), Major-General Dikko, outgoing GOC 3 Division, now
Chief of Logistics (COLOG), DHQ, Major-General Aondo, COLOG,
AHQ, and Major-General Otubu, Director Army Policy and Plans(DAPP).
However, Major-Generals S.N Chikwe, Lemu, Toun and Ovo still
retain their positions as Provost Marshal, Chief of Administration,
Director Army Finance and Accounts and Director of Military
Intelligence respectively.
Others who also retained their positions are: Major-General
Dzarma, Commandant Nigerian Defence Academy(NDA), and Major-General
Agboola, Army secretary.
Meanwhile, the 2006 Nigerian Army Day Celebrations (NADCEL),
kicks off today with a press briefing by the Chief of Army
Staff(COAS), Major-General Owoye Andrew Azazi at the Army
Head quarters, Abuja.
Activities lined up for the occasion include lectures, interdenominational
service, gala night, parade, among others.
