Another
building collapses in Aba

No fewer than seven persons are feared trapped in a four
storey building that collapsed in Aba..
Already 13 persons have been rescued and taken to various
hospitals in the city by a combined team of the Nigerian Red
Cross Society and the Police.
The building, house number 60 ,Clifford Road collapsed at
about 3pm yesterday, when about 20 workers were said to be
carrying out various construction work. According to Mr Chinedu
Nwankpa, an official of the Red Cross, who led the rescue
team, four of the survivors were taken to Mendel hospital
while three others were taken to Christ Will hospital treatments."
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Aba South Local Government. Dr.
Okoli allegedly released N100,000 for the treatment of the
injured survivors at the two hospital, He also released a
pail loader to search the debris for the trapped victims.
The Chairman of Aba North Local Government. Chief Eleke Chukwu
also visited the site..
When Daily Sun visited the pail loader was seen working to
see if some survivors could be rescued. One of the survivors,
Mr Philip Uko told Daily Sun he had stepped into the building
with a relation of the landlord after a report was sent to
him that the building was under serious threat.
He said they were at the fourth floor when the building collapsed
but he miraculously escaped unhurt while the other man was
seriously injured and was receiving treatment at God's Will
hospital.
