A 35-year-old man is in police custody in Ado-Ekiti for selling
his 60-year-old mother, Mrs. Adefunke Tijani, for a princely
N350,000.00.
Daily Sun gathered that the suspect, Oladeji, confessed before
a crowd at the palace of Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, that he sold his
mother for that amount.
He, however, declined to name the buyers of his mother, whose
disappearance has turned the entire family of Tijani, in No.
21, Araromi Street, Okesha, in the heart of the city, into
a mourning mood.
He was later handed over to a team of policemen which was
invited to the palace by the monarch, Oba Rufus Adejugbe Aladesanmi.
Speaking to Daily Sun at the family residence, the head, Disu
Oyeniyi, lamented what he described as unfortunate incident.
According to him, he left the 60-year-old woman at home last
Saturday for his farm only not to meet her when he came back
about 4:00pm.
On enquiry, he said nobody had any clue as to her movements.
"When I came back, I asked other siblings of the man
about her whereabouts. They said that they had not seen their
mother since morning," he said, adding, "When it
was in the evening and she was yet to appear it was at that
point an alarm was raised and from there we organised a search
party. Up till now, we have not seen her. It is too bad."
Speaking on the incident, one of the daughters of the missing
woman, Mrs. Feyi Oladimeji, said: "They came to call
me in my husband's house to tell me that they were looking
for my mother. I am so sad about my missing mother. The entire
family, for now, is in a state of shock. I am only appealing
to the police to assist in unraveling the missing of our mother."
When Daily Sun visited the State police headquarters on Wednesday,
the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Umar Babangida,
an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), was said to have
travelled to Abuja with the state Commissioner of Police,
Mrs. I. V. Y. Okorokwo, but a source at the command, however,
disclosed the presence of the suspect in their cell.
