Self-styled political godfather of Anambra politics and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Chris Uba has promised to pull some surprises this year both politically and otherwise.

Consequently, he has warned politicians in the state against contemplating any form of rigging in the forthcoming elections, especially in Anambra State.

Uba further urged politicians to involve themselves in things that would only promote peace and unity of the nation and which would guarantee free and credible elections.

He said, "This year 2007 is a year I will surprise a lot of people and everybody would be surprised when I start to unfold my plans politically and otherwise. Just wait and see me in action because the masquerade of my status does not make noise when the arena is filled with novices".

Urging the electorate to ask party candidates serious questions on how to move the nation and states forward, Uba in his new year message further said, "This is a year to do real politics on merit of the candidates contesting the election and not on rigging and manipulation".

He said that the electorate should ask candidates questions that would make them sit up for the challenges ahead than just asking for monetary gains that do not last, adding that politicians would no longer depend on only time of elections to assist their constituency members to gather cheap votes but should learn to invest in infrastructure, education and health for the welfare of the citizenry.
He reiterated that he is still a strong member of PDP, hence would not allow anybody to rubbish the house he built for many years on frivolous rumours of his defecting to another party.

The businessman-politician, who called on well-meaning people to pool their resources in the war against measles and other infant killer diseases as well as fighting poverty through provision of food and clothing, said "How can I dump PDP for ANPP when I am still a member of the party’s board of trustees (BOT)? Some people said I have joined Action Congress (AC), others say for now, I have not decided on which party to join. My brother, all these are rumours from my political opponents and I assure you that I am still a bona fide member of the PDP".

It will be recalled that Chief Chris Uba had helped Dr Chris Ngige to win the Anambra State elections in 2003, but the duo later fell apart. Uba thereafter revealed that he massively rigged the election to get Ngige into office.
