More details have emerged on the arrest, Thursday of Nkoyo, wife of former Delta State governor, Chief James Ibori in London by the Metropolitan Police.
Nkoyo, who holds a dual citizenship of Nigeria and Britain was arrested in connection ongoing enquiries into money-laundering allegations against the husband.

The 39-year-old lady was arrested while waiting to board a Virgin Atlantic flight for Lagos on Thursday evening at the Heathrow airport.

The Metropolitan Police say a woman was arrested at Heathrow airport late on Thursday before a flight to Lagos.
The former Delta State governor is accused of looting state funds and only recently, the Southwalk Crown Court in London, ordered the freezing of the ex-governor’s assets in the United Kingdom believed to be in the region of $35 million.

The assets include real estate, a newly acquired aircraft - still with the manufacturers in Canada - and cash. The cost of the aircraft is put in the region $20 million.
The Met Police spokeswoman said Mrs. Ibori is being held at a west London police station. So far she has not been charged with any offence.

Confirming the arrest of the former Delta State First Lady, a spokesperson for Ibori, Michael Ujiagbedion, however, accused the British Police of desperation in their bid to procure evidence against Ibori at all cost.

Ujiagbedion in a statement disclosed that she was to board a Virgin Atlantic flight (VS651) to rejoin her family in Nigeria, when “she was taken to a West London
Police Station by 21.15pm by officers from the Proceeds of Corruption Unit.
He said the British Police was desperate “to procure evidence at any cost against her husband, Chief James Ibori whose investigation by the Met Police appears to have run into a dead end.
“After over 2 years of investigation which has produced no evidence against Chief Ibori, the utterly embarrassed British Authorities have now resorted to

humiliating a law abiding British citizen. It is noteworthy that Mrs Theresa Nkoyo Ibori who owns properties and has lived in London for decades, has never had any brush with the law. She was never declared wanted or had her movement restricted.”

According the spokesperson, Mrs. Ibori has remained “calm in the face of the unwarranted action of the Met Police and restated her innocence of any wrong-doing whatsoever. This morning (Friday), she expressed her conviction that her innocence would in the end, be upheld.
