Two persons are now in police net in connection with the
Tuesday attack on the convoy of former governor of Oyo State,
Senator Rasidi Ladoja, at Lalupon township of Ibadan city.
A popular aide of the former governor, Mr. Sunday Igboho,
has also been declared wanted over the violent clash which
left about 10 people critically injured.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Miss
Olabisi Okuwobi, told Daily Sun on Thursday that a manhunt
had been launched for Sunday Igboho, whom victims of the clash
accused of leading the attack team of Ladoja. She was, however,
silent on the identities of the two arrested persons, who,
she said, were being interrogated by police detectives at
the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID).
“All the victims of the clash claimed that it was Sunday
Igboho that shot them. So, we are already on his trail. Nobody
can turn Oyo State into jungle city again after sanity has
been restored. That the Commissioner of Police (CP), AIG Udom
Ekpoudom, is on leave does not mean the thugs can do what
they like. Act of thuggery is still outlawed in the state,”
Okuwobi stated.
Okuwobi disclosed that all those implicated in the violent
clash would be brought to book as the police command has ruled
out any act of thuggery in the state.
Meanwhile, the State Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP),
Mr. Raph Ibeazor, has read the riot acts to all politicians
in the state and their godfathers overany act that could disrupt
the relative peace in the state, especially as it related
to the conduct of the by-election slated for Saturday, January
26.
Ibeazor, who summoned a meeting of all political stakeholders
in the state in preparation for the by-election into Lagelu/Akinyele
Federal Constituency, disclosed that all his officers have
been put on red alert on any act that could breach public
peace in the state.
“I need not warn of the consequences of being caught,
as it is better imagined than experienced. We can justifiably
say without any iota of contradiction that criminals, political
jobbers, political thugs, political godfathers and miscreants
shall be frontally confronted within the purview of the law.
"The political parties should vehemently resist the temptation
of using violence of any form before, during and after the
bye-election
“Politics as a means of service to humanity should not
be used as a manager of death, sorrow, injuries and so on,
for it is only the living that can be represented in the House
of Representatives,” the police chief stated.
Yesterday stakeholders' meeting was attended by security personnel
from the Nigerian Army, State Security Services (SSS), para-military
organizations as well as representatives of the political
parties that would participate in the by-election.
