Akala promises to increase

Oyo State government is set to increase the fund that goes
to its 33 local government areas with the excess crude oil
account of the state.
Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala disclosed this in Ibadan on Tuesday
at the official opening of the office of Association of Local
Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Oyo State chapter at Iyaganku
Quarters in the state capital.
Represented by his deputy, Alhaji Taofeek Arapaja, the governor
stated that his administration decided to take the step in
order to enable the local government councils improve majorly
in the execution of capital projects that would go a long
way in bringing succour to the people at the grassroot level.
“It is equally important to assure you that our amiable
governor will critically look into the issue of signatory
to the stabilization account and excess crude oil fund towards
increasing your capacity to implement capital projects that
would improve the lives of the grassroots people,” he
said.
Alao-Akala, however, urged the chairmen of the 33 local governments
who all graced the occasion in persons to be above board and
adequately deliver the dividends of democracy to the people
by doing more in the area of provision of infrastructural
facilities such as roads, potable water, security, food and
other physiological needs of the people in their various local
governments.
In his address, ALGON Chairman in the state, Mr. Ademola Ojo,
commended Governor Alao-Akala for the good gesture, saying
the incumbent regime has done a lot for the people of the
state.
While appreciating the governor for providing the conducive
place for ALGON, which comprises all the 33 local government
chairmen in the state, Ojo appealed to the governor for the
provision of new official cars and a benefiting official bus
for the use of the association members.
On the provision of infrastrutual facilities to the grassroot
people, ALGON chairman enjoined the governor to authorize
the state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy
Matters, Hon. Hosea Ayoola Agboola to grant approval for the
release of the funds kept in the individual stabilization
account of the councils with a view to using the money to
execute more developmental projects.
