The Senate President, Senator David Mark, has declared that
the upper legislative chamber of the National Assembly would
continue to discharge its constitutional duties without fear
or favour, irrespective of whose ox is gored.
Senator Mark, who gave the assurance at the weekend, said
the current Senate would be transparent, open and would not
be scared of discussing any topic that affects the entire
citizenry of the country, just as he called on Nigerians to
support the Upper House in the discharge of its constitutional
duties.
Speaking in Ede, Osun State, the Senate President gave indication
that the Senate as currently constituted is committed to the
overall welfare of the entire citizen of the country irrespective
of status.
Senator Mark, who was a special guest at the award ceremony
of Senator Isiaka Adeleke Scholarship Scheme, disclosed that
the Senate would protect the nation’s integrity in order
to lay a solid foundation for the socio-political and economic
development of the nation. The Senate helmsman, who applauded
Senator Adeleke for the initiative, stressed that education
is the best legacy one can bestow on any generation.
His words: “It is gladdening that Senator Adeleke initiated
this kind of schalarship award for indigent students in his
constituency. Like I always tell my children, education is
the greatest inheritance they can inherit from me because
once you educate somebody, you have given him a lifeline.
“When you educate your people, they can no longer be
manipulated by any politician and politics would remain pure
in the face of the people.”
Senate Mark said that efforts would be made to encourage education
at all levels by the current Senate.
Speaking earlier, Senator Adeleke, who represents Osun West
Senatorial District, disclosed that his decision to award
the scholarship to the over 100 tertiary institution students
drawn from his senatorial district was borne out of his conviction
that education is the best legacy one can bestow on a generation.

N50,000 each to the students and also unveiled his plans to
establish skill acquisition centres in all the ten local government
