Pioneer Publicity Secretary of the People Democratic Party
(PDP), in Lagos State, Chief Willy Akinlude, has described
the on-going probes by the House of Representatives as a step
in the right direction.
Baring his mind to Daily Sun in an interview, he reasoned
that probes are integral parts of legislative business.
According to him, lawmakers have the prerogative to beam their
searchlight on any area of interest within their legislative
jurisidiction.
Akinlude submitted that it was wrong for anyone to condemn
the lawmakers’ attempt to delve into the activities
of more than one institution at a go.
While cautioning the House of Representatives not to use their
privileged position to witch-hunt any one under the guise
of probe, he pointed out that this would cast doubt on their
sincerity and render their recommendations useless.
The PDP chieftain maintained that aside making governance
better, genuine probes were bound to make Nigerians happy
with their leaders.
He, however, lamented that past probes have failed to bring
about necessary changes as recommendations from such efforts
never gets implemented.
“After sometimes, you hardly get to hear anything again.
That is why people are wary of the exercise,” he said.
Akinlude expressed satisfaction that many secret things were
being unravelled through the probes and urged those in government
to serve above board by ensuring that they do things properly
and transparently.
This, he said, would bring to the fore the fact that anyone
that wants to occupy public office must be careful, as their
activities may be subject to probe anytime.
