Ondo State Accountant-General, Mrs Folake Ogunnika, was on
Wednesday arrested and whisked to Abuja by the Economic and
Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) operatives.
Ogunnika was arrested by the EFCC operatives in her office
at the Alagbaka around 2.30pm after the commission’s
agents had identified themselves and presented to her a warrant
of arrest
Her arrest, it was gathered, was based on N1 billion naira
unsecured loans she allegedly collected as cars loans to political
office holders.
It was learnt that the commission had ealier invited the woman
to its Lagos office to explain her role in the purported N1
billion car loans, but the woman did not honour the invitation
of the anti-grant agency
The development, which EFCC considered as a deliberate attempt
to shun the invitation and when it was glearing that the accountant
general was not ready to cooperate the commission, sent its
operatives to pick up the woman on Wednesday.
Daily Sun investigation revealed that Ogunnika and the state
Commissioner for Finance, Chief Tayo Alasoadura, were at the
office of the commission in Lagos last month over a petition
that alleged that government was keeping N126 billion in a
private account.
The investigation into the allegation was still on when the
commission received yet another petition concerning the N1
billion car loans for political office holders
Confirming her arrest, the EFCC spokesperson, Mr Femi Babafemi,
said the commission operatives picked up the Accountant General
in her office in Akure on Wednesday over N1 billion unsecured
loans for political office holders through her office.
Babafemi said Mrs Ogunnika was on her way to the Headqaurters
of the commission in company of the operatives of EFCC.
