Hello Steve,
I am writing from Baku Azerbaijan. I'm a regular reader of
your newspaper column and this has always been a routine for
me even right from Nigeria.
In as much as I like your style of writing, but I feel I have
to point out times I don't agree with you. Concerning your
recent write-up on Yar’Adua, I totally do not agree
with you.
I am a professional writer, sharing the same profession as
you. I know writers have the days they are totally put off
momentum; I can authoritatively say that the day you wrote
this piece was one of yours. You have not only betrayed your
analytical mind by being biased, but also you have totally
digressed from what is totally baseless.
I don't think there was a correlation between the said IBB
statements in June of 1993 to the present state of leadership
of Mallam Yar’Adua. Just as a simple advice for you
and your colleagues in Nigeria; its true that Obasanjo’s
term in office was not that palatable, but a good professional
is the one who does not come to conclusions concerning a person
based on another person’s past records. Afterall, even
parents and sons most often (sometimes) differ totally in
values.
Yar’Adua might have started slowly, but still slow and
steady is a better pace than a fast and unsteady pace; remember
the popular adage that slow and steady wins the race. It’s
time Nigeria columnists wrote professional articles, not just
to fulfill an obligation of writing, but taking time to be
more concrete in facts.
There is no compulsion rule that you must write; but even
if you have to write, please write on something else and not
trying to score a cheap mark by trying to incite people's
opinions wrongly on a dedicated and focused man, Mallam Yar’Adua.
Thanks
