Prince Temidayo Adeyemi is one of the leading Action Congress,
(AC) chairmanship aspirants in Agege Local Government Area
of Lagos State.
The US-trained Sociology graduate has not only warmed himself
into the hearts of residents and politicians in his constituency,
but also claims to be the leading light among the group of
aspirants for the much coveted post.
Recently, he gave a hint of his plan for the teeming residence
of Agege Council area in the event of his chairmanship ambition
when he launched a welfare package for the aged in the area.
Coming immediately after that, he also unveiled another masses-oriented
programme that will give employment that will revolve round
graduate job seekers in the area.
Recently Adeyemi fielded questions on major political developments.
He spoke extensively on his plan for the council.
Plans to be the best ever chairman
We have our reasons for coming into government. What we have
seen on ground in the past years is lack lustre development
in Agege Local Government area that has left no meaningful
impact on the people. The like of Enoch Ajiboso, Ajaguna did
a lot of things, in terms of infrastructural decay, the roads
and drainage systems, the relationship with the people, the
empowerment of our youth, among others. We are not condemning
anyone, but we want to lead by example, and we shall strive
to be the best ever in the area of effective performance that
will touch the people’s lives.
I have valuable experience that will serve me well in meeting
my plans. I am the chairman of the defunct Agege Forum, a
neo-socio-political forum, which campaigned for good governance
in the council area. We have studied the problems in Agege.
The major problem, so far, is flood. Before my decision to
vie for the chairmanship seat of Agege, we have been involved
in solving the personal problem of the people, to a wide extent.
To ensure security for life and property, we have a comprehensive
compilation of black spots in Agege. We also have an exclusive
video of all the areas troubled with flood. We have been taking
a cursory look at the areas for over 15 years. Those were
preparation years, and now will be the actualisation period,
if I get the mandate.
Pedigree
I was born and bred here in Keke, Agege, Lagos State. Before
I went to the US, there were a lot of programmes on ground,
but while I was away, they were grounded. When I came back
in 2003, I reactivated them after going round to see thing
for myself. I have worked with keen interest in the development
of the council area. I have been to communities; I have been
in Community Development Associations, (CDAs). I have been
to leaders of thought in Agege – The Kabiyesi, Baales,
and others, to address these issues. As you can see, things
are not working in the local government as they should, but
we are poised to address it frontally, and reverse the situation.
Internal revenue generation
There are a lot of areas of generating revenue. In the market
area, we hope to give loans to market women, which they will
pay back with some interest. The youth would be empowered
to be useful to themselves and also to their communities and
thereby generating revenue for the local government. We are
also looking forward to a computer village. You can see how
much Ikeja Local Government is generating from it. If we have
one here in Agege, we would do the same thing.
Aluminum fabrication is a fast moving business in the country
now. We intend to execute projects along that line, put our
youth in there and it will revolve fund right back to the
council. From our parking system, we can also generate revenue.
We have a think-tank that is examining all these potentials.
I just have to mention a few for obvious reasons.
Party primaries
We have been working seriously on that. You have to give yourself
critical self-examination. I believe that if the entire community
can be with you, there is no way you cannot make it. As I
said, I have engaged in extensive discussion with the leaders
of thought in the society, the Bales, Kabiyesi, communities
leaders, market women, the business class, the ordinary people
etc. and they have assured me of their support.
Vision
My vision and mission is to have a complete transformation
and repositioning of Agege Local Government, such that its
citizens and generation yet unborn will have good quality
and unbiased access to basic necessities of life, so that
they would have life more abundant. |
