Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Berti Vogts, is furious with
Obafemi Martins, Mikel Obi and Victor Anichebe over their nonchalance
towards Saturday’s international friendly.
The Super Eagles had their first training at Yeading Football
Club training ground in London with 18 of the invited players
in attendance.
Vogts’ anger knew no bounds when Newcastle striker, Obafemi
Martins, strolled into the camp late with the excuse of having
missed his way to the national team training ground.
Also, out of favour with the German coach is Chelsea player,
Mikel Obi, who was present at the training pitch without training
with the team, citing toe injury as excuse.
Everton player, Victor Anichebe, compounded the headache of
the coach, when he complained of an injury which prevented him
from training. A furious Vogts declared that Anichebe should
have informed him earlier of the injury he is nursing to enable
him change his game plan for the match.
In spite of the injury woes, Berti Vogts, expressed optimism
and confidence that the team will do well against the Australians
on Saturday.
He went further to reveal that assistant coach, Austin Eguavoen,
will not be on the technical crew bench on Saturday, as he has
been sent out to monitor Cote d’Ivoire and Mali, who are
equally having a friendly matches on that day.
Meanwhile, Portsmouth players of Kanu Nwankwo and John Utaka
have been ruled out of the Saturday cracker due injuries they
sustained during their club’s games against Manchester
City.
Two goalkeepers, Dele Aiyenugba and Austin Ejide, were among
the players that trained yesterday at their training ground. |
