Arsenal's hope of holding on to Mathieu Flamini looks to have failed as the player has told teammates that he was joining AC Milan. Sportsmail revealed last month that Juventus had offered the midfielder £3.5million each season over five years, but that they expected a rival offer from AC Milan.

That has now materialised and the Frenchman seems intent on heading for the San Siro after purportedly saying: “I have decided that I will be going to Milan.”

Milan’s coach, Carlo Ancelotti said: “Along with (Gennaro) Gattuso and (Massimo) Ambrosini, he can bring strength and substance without losing any quality. Flamini has exceptional dynamism, he can play three roles, even in front of defence.”

Arsenal may fill the gap left by Flamini with Australian Under-23 captain, Mark Milligan. The 22-year-old player, who can play in the back four and in midfield, is a free agent after three years at Sydney FC.
He has spent recent weeks training at several Barclays Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, Manchester City and Fulham.
