A ghastly motor accident has claimed no fewer than 16 indigenes of Dambatta town, in Dambatta Local Government Area of Kano State.

Daily Sun gathered that the accident, which has left many families in tears and sorrow across the state, occurred Wednesday night along the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway.

A source close to one of the victims explained that the deceased, who had returned to the state from one of the South West states to attend a wedding ceremony in their village, was ambushed by suspected kidnappers /bandits on their way back to their base.

According to his account, the gang had flagged down their vehicles, but the driver of the bus they were traveling in failed to stop, resulting in the kidnappers shooting at their tyres and the vehicle somersaulted. That led to the death of all the passengers.

He disclosed that the remains of some of the deceased were returned to Dambattta town last night and had been buried according to Islamic rites by their respective families.

Meanwhile, Kano State governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has expressed shock over the tragic death of the indigenes of the state.

A statement signed by the chief press secretary to the governor, Abba Anwar, urged the people of the state to pray fervently for the repose of the souls of the deceased.
