At least 19 people, including four suicide bombers, were killed in multiple bomb explosions in Maiduguri, Borno State capital, yesterday.
Four suicide bombers attacked Molai, a suburb of Maiduguri at about 10.05pm on Tuesday night, detonated explosives at different locations within the area, and killed 19 people, including the bombers, while 23 people, mostly members of the Civilian Joint Task Force were injured.
Sources said the first bomber infiltrated a local tea joint and detonated Improvised Explosive Device (IEDs), killing nearly all the people. The second explosion came about five minutes and two other explosions came later, near security posts of the civilian JTF.
Commissioner of Police, Borno State Command, Damian Chukwu confirmed 19 people died in the duskblasts.
“Four suicide bombers attacked Jiddari-Polo Molai area. The terrorists detonated IEDs in the area, killing 19 people including the bombers. Also, 23 people were injured,” he disclosed at one of the scenes of the attack. He also confirmed some members of civilian JTF were injured.
The incident happened nearly a month after suicide bombers invaded a camp for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at Dalori, a community at the outskirts of the city killing eight people.
On Tuesday, the military held bilateral talk with Cameroon security chiefs, to fashion out areas of collaboration to improve the counter-insurgency operation in the North East.
