• Shop razed in Onitsha

 From Dom Ekpunobi, Onitsha

TWO members of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra, (MASSOB) have died in Onitsha, Anambra State in two separate incidents.

In one of the incidents, two policemen attached to Okpoko Police Division Onitsha sustained injuries.

In another bloody clash, another MASSOB member reportedly died after he was beaten to coma at Edeh Road area of the commercial city by a rival group.

An eyewitness told Daily Sun that trouble started when one of the late MASSOB members resisted arrest by the two policemen after a woman lodged an assault report against him.

It was said that rather than submit himself for arrest, he mobilised members numbering about 20 on telephone to the scene, who, upon arrival, allegedly attacked the policemen for arresting the suspect.

It was further gathered that while the debacle lasted, some policemen, who acted on a tip-off arrived at the scene and joined their colleagues.

Thereafter, the MASSOB members, who had arrived to assist their member, escaped from the place, leaving their apprehended member in the hands of the police.

On arrival at the police station, the suspect was said to have died after complaining of severe pains as a result of the fight with the policemen.

On the other hand, it was gathered that a woman complained to another MASSOB member that a rival member assaulted her.

The member mobilised his colleagues, to defend the woman who allegedly attacked the victim, who subsequently died after he was beaten to coma.

Daily Sun gathered that sympathisers, who acted in anger later mobilised and razed the woman’s shop after which she fled the scene.

The Okpoko Divisional Police Officer, Mr Olabanji Kayode, confirmed the incidents and added that investigations were in progress.
