Two men, who allegedly broke into a house and stole personal effects and money valued at N312,000, were on Monday in Lagos charged before an Apapa Chief Magistrates’ Court.

The men — Lukman Ganiyu, 24, and Jamiu Yusuf, 25 –whose addresses are unknown, are standing trial on a three-count charge of felony, burglary and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Tony Elibeh, said the accused committed the offences on April 18 at a house near rail line in Ijora-Badia in Apapa area of Lagos.

According to him, two men broke into the house of a woman (names withheld) and stole her phones valued at N62, 000 and a cash of N250,000.

The offences contravened Sections 285, 305 and 409of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused pleaded not guilty.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Titus Abolarinwa, granted each of the accused a N150,000 bail with two sureties each in like sum.

Abolarinwa said the sureties must be gainfully employed and also present evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

In addition, he said the sureties should present a recent public electricity bill of their houses.

Further hearing has been fixed for May 18. (NAN)
