SIX persons including two policemen and four suspected kidnappers reportedly died in a lone vehicle accident along the Bauchi-Soro Road.

Daily Sun learnt yesterday, that the cops, identified as Inspector Nuhu Usman and Sergeant Nasiru Sale attached to the Soro Divisional headquarters of the Bauchi State police command, were conveying five suspected kidnappers to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Bauchi, when the accident occurred.

Sources said the cause of the accident could not be immediately ascertained, but the vehicle bearing registration number GJW 446 XA, was said to have somersaulted severally before it crashed into the bush, killing six persons on the spot.

Reports said the driver, identified as Yau Adamu and one of the suspected kidnappers whose name was not given, sustained injuries and were taken to the ATBU Teaching Hospital in Bauchi, where corpses of the deceased were also deposited.

In another development, the police in Bauchi, have arrested one Umar Audu and four others suspected to be cattle rustlers.

One AK47 rifle, a locally made pistol, two magazines with 57 rounds of 6.72mm live ammunition, and three handsets were said to have been recovered from them. Other items recovered included one unregistered motorcycle, 58 cows, 79 sheep and assorted charms.

This is coming just as operatives of the police Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) stationed at Hawan Kibo forest along the Abuja-Jos road, at the weekend, recovered live ammunition from seven Fulani men riding on three unregistered motorcycles.

It was learnt that four rifle butts, a mobile handset and N69, 530 were also found on the men who were promptly arrested and are currently being interrogated at the CID of the Plateau State police command.
