Former Speaker of the House of Representatives and the governorship candidate of Action Democratic Party (ADP) in Ogun State, Dimeji Bankole, on Monday, boasted that his party would win the governorship seat in the state come 2019.
Bankole, who stated this during his formal presentation as the ADP governorship flag bearer by the state party chairman, Wale Egunleti, at the party secretariat in Abeokuta, also expressed confidence that ADP has been well structured to defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, during next year’s poll.
The former House of Reps Speaker, who thanked the party for being elected as the governorship candidate of the ADP in the state and promised he would not waste the ticket.
“I am exceedingly happy to be nominated as our party’s gubernatorial candidate. I am grateful to this massive structure you have built in the last six years, especially in the last two years.
“I promise that I will not, in any capacity, play with the ticket that you have given. I believe I can speak on behalf of all other candidates that come February and March 2019, we will deliver.
“I am speaking with all confidence with the work that you have done in the last two years, and still doing, most of it covertly. We are in for a shot at the seat in this state. We are dependent on God and the work that we have done and still doing especially at grassroots level.
“I assure you that the economic complexities of the Ogun State is not difficult . And the motor of our party ‘Mass Employment’ is something that we will follow,” mBankole submitted.
Speaking earlier, the state chairman of the party, Wale Egunleti, described Bankole as a tested and trusted leader whose competence and readiness for the task of effectively governing Ogun State could not be questioned.
“When we began our long walk to freedom, we knew that the road ahead would be tough. We were, however, strengthened by our resolve to abide by democratic principles and distinguish ourselves from those who engage in acts which are detrimental to our democracy.
“In light of recent events in which primaries by other parties were marred by violence and are even subject to litigation, we in the Action Democratic Party (ADP) have set ourselves apart by conducting primaries in a most peaceful manner, which will remain as a point of reference for years to come.
“We are all witnesses to how Rt. Hon. Dimeji Bankole, despite his young age, competently presided over the affairs of the House of Reps. He took over the reins of leadership at a period when the House was enmeshed in turmoil and not only stabilised the House, but also completed his term; something which, at that time, was an unprecedented feat.
“His contributions to infrastructural development within the state are also there for all to see; as Speaker, he attracted projects not just to his immediate constituency, but also to areas outside of it,” Egunleti stated.
