Former federal lawmakers from the South East, under the aegis of the South East caucus of former members of the National Assembly, have expressed support for the nomination of former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, the as vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in next year’s general elections.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, leader of the group, Hon. Ogbuefi Ozomgbachi, commended the PDP presidential candidate and former vice president, Abubakar Atiku, for choosing Obi as his running mate.
Ozomgbachi assured Atiku that the entire Igbo at home and diaspora are excited with his choice of the former Anambra governor and would vote for him massively in the 2019 presidential poll in appreciation.
He called on Igbo leaders, who have expressed misgivings over Obi’s nomination as PDP’s vice presidential candidate to sheath their swords in the interest of the country.
“We note that Mr Peter Obi’s nomination has generated needless and unhealthy controversies, which must be nipped in the bud, to stop any further embarrassment.
“We categorically state that the greatest challenge facing us as a nation is the removal of the current retrogressive All Progressives Congress (APC) regime and the enthronement of an all inclusive government committed to the good governance, adherence to federal character principles and restructuring which the PDP and the Atiku/Obi ticket represents.
“We plead with our brothers, sisters and others, who misunderstood any of the processes leading to this appointment and reacted negatively to the choice of Mr. Peter Obi, to sheathe their swords and throw their weights behind our illustrious son, his principal, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, who is our presidential flag bearer,” Ozomgbachi said.
