Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has urged serving members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to contribute towards deepening of the nation’s democracy by remaining neutral in the 2019 general election.
Governor Okowa further implored the corps members who will be engaged by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as ad-hoc workers for the conduct of the elections to demonstrate honesty of purpose and utmost patriotism.
Represented by his Commissioner for Higher Education, Jude Sinebe, the governor who spoke during the swearing-in ceremony of 2018 batch ‘C’ (Stream II) corps members at Issele-Uku, recalled that over the years, the NYSC had contributed meaningfully to the successful conduct of elections in the country.
“Joining the scheme at this time, will give you opportunity to be part of the success story already recorded in this regard.

“Our country has invested much in you and therefore expects that you will further deepen your commitment to the progress, peace and development of our nation in your activities as members of the service corps,” he said.
Okowa assured corps members that his administration places high premium on their welfare and security, adding that adequate security arrangements were on ground in the nooks and crannies of the state to enable them go about their lawful duties without fear.
Coordinator of NYSC in the state, Benjamin Omotade had disclosed that a total of 1,430 corps members, comprising 780 females and 650 males participated in the sworn-in ceremony.
Omotade said the call to service was a task that required total determination, commitment and hard work.
He, therefore, called on the corps members to roll-up their sleeves and get to work by demonstrating positive characteristics traits of someone with a resolve to succeed.
