A senatorial candidate in Benue state, on the platform of All Progressive Grand Alliance, (APGA), Apostle Iorwuese Ligom, has stated that it is the turn of his Kwande Local Government Area to occupy the Benue North East Senatorial seat.
The seat for Benue North East Senatorial District a.k.a Zone, is where former Governor Gabriel Suswam is currently representing and also seeking reelection under the platform of the PDP.
Ligom queried the rationale behind the persistent denial of the people of Kwande the Benue North East Senatorial seat since the return of democracy even when the other six local governments have had their share.
Ligom, a bonafide son of Kwande and APGA senatorial candidate, lamented that Kwande which is legitimately qualified by right to elect a senator to represent the zone at the national assembly has been constantly dribbled out of the game since 1999.
According to him, out of the three major components of Zone A, which is Jechira, Sankera and Kwande (comprising Kwande and Ushongo) only Kwande is yet to enjoy the position.
He further pointed out that Jechira has produced Sen. Jack Gyado (Vandeikya), while Senators Joseph Akaagerger and Barnabas Gemade (Konshisha) also benefitted for the period of 12 years.
He also noted that 1 in Sankera axis alone, Senators Suemo Chia and Iorwuese Hager (Katsina Ala), Sen Daniel Saror (Ukum) and the current serving Senator Gabriel Suswam (Logo) has enjoyed the position completing another 12 year stretch.
On Kwande axis comprising of two Local Governments, Ligom noted that Ushongo had elected Senator David Iornem while Kwande Local Government is yet to elect any of their sons to represent Benue North East Senatorial District at the national assembly.
The APGA Senatorial Candidate raised an alarm that Sankera, have again, perfected plans for another tenure for the senate seat with the emergence of their sons as candidates of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), (Sen Gabriel Suswam) and that of All Progressive Congress (Hon Emmanuel Udende).
He described the development as unfair insisting that it is the turn of Kwande to occupy the seat this time.
Ligom, an Orthopaedic Surgeon who contested for governorship of Benue state some years back, narrated how Sankera has been favoured with so many Federal political appointments and elective seats and appealed to  stakeholders and leaders of Zone A to rise up and correct the lopsided calculation for equity, fairness and justice.
He noted that the Tiv people are known for being upright and politics of inclusiveness captured in their principle of “Ya Na Angbian” which means chop and give your brother.
He however said APGA, as a party for the  people, has already considered him, the son of Kwande by nominating him to contest the 2023 Benue North Senatorial election come 2023 assuring that if elected he will sponsor bills that can end the menace of insecurity in Sankera and other areas of the state.
