Former Governor of Plateau State, Sen. Jonah David Jang has said that the Berom nation will work collectively to support a candidates who will protect Plateau in the interest of peace and unity during the 2023 elections.
He noted that all the six gubernatorial candidates in the state have picked their running mates from the Berom nation because of the political strength of the people.
Jang disclosed this on Sunday during the Interdenominational unity service, tagged “Wusal Berom” organized by the Berom Language and Translation Board (BLTB), held at Kuru, Plateau State.
He caution that the service was not an avenue to discuss politics but admonished the people not to be divided ahead of the 2023 election because all parties have picked Beroms as Deputy Governorship candidates.
Jang appreciated the Berom and Plateau people for standing with him in prayers during his trial in court, and said God listened to the fervent prayers of the people and discharged and acquitted him of all the count charges leveled against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
He thanked the Gbong Gwom Jos, Da Jacob Gyang Buba, who took his bail when he was dragged to court despite all odds against him and Hon. Edward Pwajok SAN, the Deputy Governorship Candidate of Labour Party, who toiled throughout with other legal luminaries to ensure justice for him.
“I am a father and I will not say this or that, we will sit down together and take a decision on candidates to support in 2023, we will not support those who will fight the Berom Land, we will support those who will protect us and the people of Plateau State.
Jang described Plateau as the Jerusalem of Nigeria due to the calm, untroubled and peaceful nature of the state, saying all must resolve to work for the protection of Plateau State.
The Gbong Gwom Jos, Da Jacob Gyang Buba who took the sermon from the Book of Genesis 2:1, titled, “God reveal his plan for his people” said God has made everything good for his people and urged citizens to make their ways right with God.
Plateau State Governorship Candidate, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, who prayed fervently for the peace, unity of Berom Nation and Plateau State, asked God to truncate all evil plan by enemies of progress against the state.
He prayed for more wisdom for the Gbong Gwom Jos, Da. Jacob Gyang Buba, Da. Jonah David Jang, the traditional rulers and the entire Brom people and called on various ethnic groups in the state to work in unison for the peace, unity and security of Plateau State.
Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, APC Gubernatorial Candidate, pledged his support for the Berom people; and said he was born and brought up by a Berom man, saying he will protect the land and carry everybody along.
His Labour Party counterparts, Dr. Patrick Dakum said he married a Berom woman and picked a vibrant Berom man as his running mate, adding that the Berom will occupy centre stage in his government and other ethnic groups in the state if given the mandate.
Senator representing Plateau North, Istifanus Gyang appreciated the Berom people for giving him the mandate to the Senate and said he will not be on the ballot in 2023 but that only God knows his next political destination.
He appreciated God for granting Victory at the court for Da. Jonah David Jang and called on the Berom people to support people of integrity in the next election.
Chairman of Jos South Local Government Area, Gideon Davou urged the people not to vote any candidate who will fight the Berom nation.
He admonished the people to shun people who have questionable characters such as deceit, inaccessible and vote those who will protect and advanced development in Plateau.
