The Grassroots Independent Campaign Council (GICC) on Wednesday said it has so far mobilised over 3,000 independent support groups at the grassroots level for the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his running mate, Kashim Shettima.
Delta State Coordinator of GICC, Dr. Alex Ideh, made this known in Asaba during the during the inauguration of 25 local government areas coordinators of the council in the state.
Ideh said the independent campaign council was personally set up by Tinubu to complement the efforts of Delta APC campaign structure.
According to him, the objective for members to use their “individual connections to take the Tinubu/Shettima campaign to every unit, ward and local government area in Delta State.”
He informed the inaugurated members that the strategy was to engage individuals at churches, mosques, marketplaces, bars and homes to sell the Tinubu/Shettima mandate.
A national officer of the GICC, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, stated that the overall aim of the group was to ensure that APC candidates, at all levels of the election, emerged victorious in 2023.
Ojuogboh said GICC is part of the APC campaign council structure at the state and national, stressing that the coordinators will be recognised and adequately remunerated.
“The main function of the GICC is to fill in at the grassroots level. You are the foot soldiers and your duty is to defend and debunk any negative thing said against our presidential flag bearer.
“You have the mandate to with pride, confidence and courage, defend the name of our presidential candidate,” he said.
