Governorship candidates of five political parties have visited and interacted with thousands of Christian leaders of Southern part of Kaduna State ahead of the lifting of the embargo on the 2023 election campaign scheduled to begin September 28.
The 11 local government areas that are located in the southern part of the state where the Christian leaders came from are Sanga, Jema’a, Kaura, Kajuru, Lere, Chikun, Kachia, Jaba, Zango Kataf, Kagarko and Kaduna South.
The meeting tagged “Southern Kaduna Pastor’s Congress”, had candidates of All Progressives Congress (APC) Senator Uba Sani, that of Action Alliance (AA), Mr. Timothy Adamu, New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Suleiman Othman Hunkuyi, All Progressives Grand Alliance, (APGA), Dr. Andrew Duya and that of Labour Party (LP) Dr. Jonathan Asake.
However, the candidates of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Isa Ashiru and that of the Action Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator Caleb Zagi could not make it to the venue of the meeting in Kafanchan the headquarters of Jema’a local government area of the state due to their tight schedules.
Chairman, Southern Kaduna Christian Leaders Association, Apostle Dr. Emmanuel Nuhu Kure, remarked that the gathering aimed to allow the candidates to speak with the Christian Leaders directly about their blueprint and seek clarifications as applicable.
Kure explained that the move would forestall the possibility of a post-election crisis that may arise because of misrepresentation of facts just as he appealed to leaders of other faiths to also organise a similar engagement with the governorship candidates.
“Besides today’s meeting, the engagements will continue with the hope of selecting three candidates out of all the contestants who will be presented to Southern Kaduna Christians to pray and choose from”, Kure added.
All the candidates in attendance took turns to explain to the attendees what they intend to do for the people of the region, and why they should be supported and entrusted with the leadership of Kaduna State in 2023.
