2023: We’re in active collaboration with INEC, others to preserve integrity of elections — EFCC

From Desmond Mgboh, Kano

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Thursday stated that they are working in close collaboration with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and other stakeholders to preserve the integrity of the electoral process.

The Chairman of the Commission, Abdulrasheed Bawa disclosed this at a workshop on Financial Crimes Reporting organized by the Commission for media practitioners in the state

He declared that, “We will ensure that the Electoral Act is fully enforced and those who seek to influence voters through financial inducement are brought to justice”

Represented by the Zonal Commander of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Farouq Dogondaji, he explained that, “The political recruitment process is vital to the anti-corruption cause as political will is crucial to sustaining the momentum of the fight against corruption in Nigeria”

He appealed to the media to assist in enlightening Nigerians to vote wisely and to shun the corruptive influences of anti-democratic forces in the land.

On the performance of the Commission, the anti-graft boss disclosed that EFCC secured a total of 3440 convictions between January and November 2022.

He explained that the potentials for improving on the records are good as more ongoing cases were still to be concluded in the remaining four weeks of the year/

He assured that they are not resting on their laurels as there is still a lot to be done, adding that it is against this background that they are actively engaging the media for the support of the stakeholders in the fight against corruption.

“There is no gainsaying the fact that the media remains a critical ally in the fight against economic and financial crimes. This recognition has been the fulcrum of the Commission’s partnership and collaboration with the media over the years.

“The EFCC is grateful to the media for its support over the years. Nevertheless, we believe the media have even greater roles to play as we intensify the fight against cyber crimes, illicit financial flows and money laundering which continue to deny our nation the much needed resources to tackle urgent issues of national development” he asserted.
