Participants at the on going National Sports Festival have the opportunity of winning fantastic prizes during the games.

A member of the Anti doping agency, Femi Ayorinde said the agency, in conjunction with the Local Organising Committee (LOC),  is using the festival to create awareness for a drug free sport event.

“We are promoting a drug free society using education and information programme to achieve this. There will be testing and investigation of athletes who are expected to visit our stand during the games.

“Apart from this, we are having a training session for chaperons who will lead the athletes to the doping control centre. Participants can also win prizes if they take part in our survey,” he said.

Meanwhile, the LOC has assured participants of its readiness to any address health challenges during the festival.

The Head of Stephen Keshi Stadium medical team, Dr Enebe Anthony who gave this assurance, said 450 medical personnel are on ground to attend to participant during the games.

He further revealed that LOC has provided 30 ambulances for the games.

“We have been preparing for the games since 6 months and all our personnel consisting of Doctors, Nurses, Pharmacist, medical Laboratory scientist, physiotherapists and technicians have undergone training before the commencement of the games. On a daily basis we attend to close to 200 patients a day mostly due to exhaustion,” he said.

Dr. Anthony revealed that the LOC has also conducted various medical tests ranging from malaria test to COVID 19.

“We have conducted test on some patients to ascertain the nature of their illnesses. The outcome of the test will enable us what is wrong with the patients.”

In the same vein, Team Edo has won its first gold medal after Isa Momoh finished best rider in the Men’s 500m Sprint Cycling on Friday morning.

Team Edo claimed it’s first medal on Thursday evening when Ogbomo Aisosa won Silver medal in the Dart 501 Men’s Singles after losing 1-3 to Nnamdi of Team Abia in the finals.
