The Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), on Wednesday, said 22 political parties have registered to contest in the bye-election into Kware/Wamakko federal constituency in Sokoto State.

INEC Administrative Secretary in the state, Muhammed Abubakar Sadiq, disclosed this in an interview with Daily Sun.

He said 30 parties had conducted primary elections to select their candidates but only twenty-two filled their candidates.

He listed the parties to include, APC, PDP, AC, LP, KOWA among others.

Abubakar noted that the only female candidate, Hafsat Umar, would be contesting under Accord Party.

He said the commission has trained no fewer than 1, 500 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) as adhoc staff for the exercise.

“We have concluded a three-day training for about one thousand, six hundred corps members who are going to serve as our poll officials in this important assignment.

“We have also dispatched non-sensitive materials needed for the election while we await the sensitive ones like result sheets and ballot papers, to arrive on Thursday and we distribute as well, before final deployment to voting centres on Saturday ‎morning,” he added.

The election, slated for Saturday, is to fill the seat which became vacant following the death of Honourable Abdullahi Muhammed, on July 14, 2017.
