About 23 Chadian soldiers have been feared killed by Boko Haram during an attack on an army base by some insurgents.

Military sources in Maiduguri, Borno State told our correspondent that some Boko Haram insurgent fired several shots from heavy ammunition into an army location at Dangdala, a small town in the southwestern part of Chad.

A report by AFP also quoted an unnamed military official confirming the attack.

“Boko Haram elements attacked the Chadian army position at around 1.00am, killing 23 troops. They made off with military equipment,” the agency quoted the military official.

The attack may be Boko Haram reaction to the Chadian army deployment of troops to the border areas of Borno to strengthen an ongoing operation by the Nigerian military and Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF).

Dozens of Chadian troops in 4-wheel vehicles were seen recently moving into Nigerian territory from the Gamboru/Ngala axis in the central part of Borno on trucks apparently to join the Nigerian soldiers in offensive against Boko Haram.
