THE Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) insisted yesterday that Mr Taiwo James Elegbede, driver of the ill-fated vehicle which claimed the lives of Minister of State, Labour and Employment, Mr. James Ocholi, his wife and son, had no Drivers’ Licence records with it.
Ocholi, his wife and a son, Joshua died in an accident along Kaduna-Abuja Highway penultimate Sunday while the driver and orderly only sustained injuries.
Mr Boboye Oyeyemi, FRSC Corps Marshal, had last Wednesday, briefed the Federal Executive Council (FEC) and said the driver was not captured in the commission’s data.
At the weekend, friends of Elegbede posted a copy of his Drivers’ Licence on social media, which allegedly expired on January 1, 2016.
A development FRSC’s Head of Media Relations and Strategy, Mr Bisi Kazeem denied. He said in Abuja that “Elegbede was not captured in our driving licencing data, so, the licence he claimed to have expired must be a fake one.
“Our licence procedure includes physical presence and biometric capturing of applicants which is permanently stored in our data bank, for the purpose of verification…”
Meanwhile, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has said Joshua, who died along with his parents in a ghastly auto crash recently, would be given due funeral rites by the scheme.
Director of Press and Public Relations, Mrs. Abosede Aderibigbe told Daily Sun in Abuja, yesterday, that the Kogi State Coordinator of NYSC has been directed to mobilise corps members in the state to pay their last respecta to a fallen colleague.
