Worried that the current crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may consume it, 24 groups loyal to the party, yesterday revealed plans to commence a nationwide consultation with the founding members of the party, as part of moves to rescue it.
Addressing a news conference in Abuja, national coordinator of the 24 groups, Aliyu Tukur, who served as a former secretary of PDP in Jigawa State said they could no longer fold their hands and allow few greedy individuals to destroy what they laboured for.
The coalition’s coordinator, Tukur listed Alex Ekwueme, Adamu Ciroma, Sule Lamido, Jerry Gana and Iyorcha Ayu as the five founding members they intend to woo in order to salvage the party.
He revealed how the coalition met individually with the two factional chairmen of the PDP, Ali Modu Sheriff and Ahmed Makarfi.
He said the two leaders revealed how the crisis was beyond them and needed the intervention of God.
Tukur said: “The party that we laboured to build is in a shambles. We met yesterday because of the crisis in the party.
About 24 groups met and we are asking our founding members to come and rescue it.
There are still about 9 founding members of the party who are still alive.
“They should call the two factions in the party to order.  PDP is the only party that can save the future of Nigeria. APC cannot perform. There is crisis even in the APC. We are calling on our founding fathers to immediately rescue the party.
“We met with Makarfi and Sheriff and they both said the crisis was beyond them.
They said we should go and pray.
“After now, we will meet so that we can find ways to meet with leaders of the party. We are not after any religious thing. We just want this crisis to be over.”
