Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Kabiru Ibrahim, has disclosed that road accidents within three months of 2017 have claimed 25 lives in the state.

The police boss also said that activities of fraudsters defrauding residents of their hard earned money through illegal SMS and phone calls had increased within the period.

Ibrahim, who confirmed this, on Wednesday, during a press conference at the Police headquarters, Birnin-Kebbi, said the increment in the death figures have compelled his command to invited all drivers Unions and commercial motorcyclists for stakeholders meeting to caution them on over speeding, reckless driving and usage of expired tyres.

He disclosed that in 2016, 25 fatal accidents were recorded with 53 death while 46 victims had various degree of injuries.

His words, “Within three months into 2017, we have recorded 16 vital accidents,25 die,55 had serious injuries. That is why we believed that this is getting too much and we must sensitize our Unions on how to prevent themselves from such accidents”.

The Kebbi police boss also said that most of the accidents occurred along Birnin-Kebbi to Sokoto road, Birnin-Kebbi to Jega road and Birnin-Kebbi to Bunza road .

While speaking on crimes, CP Ibrahim noted that the rate at which fraudsters were defrauding people had increased in 2017. He stressed that two suspects have been arrested in connection with illegal Withdrawer of people’s money through phone calls and suspicious SMS.

He added that many commercial motorcyclists in the state have also lost their lives and their motorcycles to armed robbers who tricked them to hidden places before they carried out their heinous act, killing them and took away their motorcycles.

He warned people of the state against receiving strange calls, replied unverified SMS adding that through the channels, fraudsters have withdraw money from bank accounts of many people.
