Three persons yesterday perished in a road accident along the Ubulu-Okiti axis of the Benin-Asaba-Onitsha Highway in Delta State.

Twelve others sustained varying degrees of injuries in the fatal crash which involved a white Toyota Hiace bus, with registration number: KSH 688 ZF, and a red truck with registration number: UWN 368 XT.

The dead victims including two males,and one female, while seven males and five females victims survive the crash with injuries.

Local sources said the accident occurred at about 7.am, adding that both vehicles were heading towards the same direction when the crash occurred.

Confirming the accident, Delta State Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Udeme Bassey Eshiet, identified driving all night and speed violation as possible cause. He said both commercial vehicles were said to be coming from Agbor and heading towards Asaba when the crash occurred.

He confirmed that 15 persons comprising nine males and six females, were involved in the accident.

According to him, operatives of FRSC rescued the injured victims to the hospital at Issele-Uku, adding the dead victims had been evacuated to the morgue

Eshiet said his men in conjunction with Ogwashi Police MTD had cleared the  road of obstructions that resulted from the accident.
