No fewer than three persons were feared dead last night as a petrol tanker exploded at Amawbia Roundabout, Anambra State.
Also about eight persons were injured while 12 shops and nine vehicles were also burnt in the inferno.
The tanker which was carrying petroleum products was said to have lost control and rammed into the Amawbia Roundabout and crashed, bursting into flames.
As at time of filing this report, a team of fire fighters were still battling to put out the fire while more buildings were still being tasked by fire.
An eye witness told the reporter that the 40ft tanker came through Amawbia Byepass and tried to negotiate the Roundabout connecting Zik Avenue when it fell down and caught fire.
Also affected by the fire were the premises of the Anambra State Fire Service as well as the security post of the Anambra State Governor’s Lodge in Amawbia.
Men of Anambra State police command who were deployed to the area to ensure that hoodlums did not capitalise on the situation to loot people’s property had a rough time.
However, the Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Mr Andrew Kumajayi, confirmed two persons were killed while more than six persons were injured.
He said: “We got signal of the incident and mobilised men to the scene of the accident.”
