Planning a trip over the long Eid weekend? Then read this:

Travelling solo is a great way to meet new people and discover something new about yourself. But it also presents its own unique challenges. If you’re a woman planning a solo holiday for the first time, keep these points in mind.

Choose the location carefully: Research the place you want to visit carefully to make sure it is women-friendly. Most travel websites do surveys about the safest and most dangerous places for women to travel to every year. Also, make sure you are booking a hotel or hostel in a safe neighbourhood.

Always let someone know where you are: Make sure a friend or family back in your home country has a copy of your itinerary. Also make sure someone in your hotel knows where you are going, even if it is the receptionist. As an extra precaution, carry the hotel’s business card or pamphlet with you whenever you go out.

Learn the local culture: Make sure you are in tune with the culture and norms of the society you’re visiting, including how to dress and eat. You don’t want to step on anyone’s toes.

Don’t overpack: You need to be able to carry your baggage around with ease so remember to pack light. If you’re staying in a place with a working washing machine, you can always wear clothes twice. Remember, less is always more. (Khaleejtimes)
