Commissioner for Health in Ogun State, Dr. Babatunde Ipaye, has disclosed that about 400 persons have benefitted from free surgery organised by the government in conjunction with Rotary International, especially Rotary International District 9110 Nigeria, Rotary International 3020 India and Rotary International 3610 South Korea.
The commissioner disclosed this when he flagged off the exercise at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), in Sagamu. Ipaye said the philosophy behind the free surgery was to give succour to indigent citizens, who could not afford costs of the operation or travel abroad for such surgery.
He said Governor Ibikunle Amosun has mandated his ministry to partner local and international agencies in making life more better and meaningful for the masses of the state.
“The cost of such surgery is usually high, which our people, especially those living in rural areas and the aged, might not be able to afford. As you can see here today, we are attending to about 400 beneficiaries, including victims of hernia, glaucoma, breast biopsy, burn excision/debridement and other life threaten ailments, free of charge and you know how much it would gulp in dollars or pounds sterling if travelling the United States of Amercia or the United Kingdom for such treatment.”
