Five persons, including two children, lost their lives while five others were injured in a motor accident that occurred on the Third Mainland Bridge,Lagos. The accident that occurred inward Oworo, by the University of Lagos(UNILAG) water front, involved a LAG bus, Hillux truck and a Rover jeep.
A witness, John Udoh said the Rover jeep belonged to a local vigilant group who were going on special duty.
Udoh said: “We can’t really say who was at fault, but we recovered five dead bodies, three female adults and two children. We also rescued five other victims who we took to Truma Centre Agency on the bridge. The dead bodies were taken to Mainland Hospital mortuary while the injured are being treated at the hospital.” The General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Mr. Michael Akindele said the agency was investigating to ascertain why and how the accident occurred.
He warned motorists to avoid over speeding which he described as a gateway to death. As at press time, Police, Fire Service, LASEMA and other relevant government agencies were on ground.
The accident vehicles were being evacuated by the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency(LATSMA) and the Police.
Operatives from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command were keeping vigil to prevent hoodlums from hijacking the situation to cause mayhem .
