No fewer than 518 candidates will battle for the 30 seats in Anambra State House of Assembly.

This is as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state has expressed its readiness for the election.

Our correspondent gathered from the  Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office that Awka North and Awka South state constituencies have the largest number of candidates.

According to the INEC statistics,  Ayamelum, Onitsha North II and Anaocha II constituencies have the least number of candidates – 13 each.

Aguata II, Anambra East, and Awka South II constituencies, have19 candidates each while Aguata I, Oyi, Anambra West, Idemili North, and Ihiala I state constituencies have 18 candidates respectively.

Also Onitsha South I, Orumba South, Anaocha I, Idemili South, Njikoka I, Nnewi North, and Onitsha South II constituencies have17 candidates each vying for seats.

Confirming the readiness of the commission, the Head, Department of Voter Education and Publicity of INEC in the state, Mr. Leo Nkedife, assured of free, fair and credible election.

He said: “Our men and materials will soon move to Registration Area Centres where they will sleep over so that they can hit their duty posts early in the morning.”

Nkedife urged the electorate to come out en masse to cast their votes for candidates of their choice, assuring that their votes would count.

Meanwhile, traffic in Awka the capital city has been eased as most residents had left the town to their various villages for the election.
