The Abia State Police Command has arrested over 95 suspected armed robbers, cultists and rapists and kidnappers. It also recovered 30 arms and ammunition during encounters with the suspects.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adeleye Oyebade, told Daily Sun that the arrests were effected by the operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad  (SARS), Anti-Kidnapping Squad and the Monitoring Unit: “They raided black spots specially the Aba-Umuahia Expressway.
“The SARS operatives arrested two notorious armed robbers identified as Unchechukwu and Ifeanyi, who specialised in robbing along Port Harcourt-Aba Expressway. Arms and ammunition including one short locally made pistol, Indian hemps and phones were recovered.
“Operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad arrested one Akoma of Umuala Nsulu Isialangua North who in company of others at large conspired to kidnap one Ubani. The intelligence-led policing strategy of the force paid off when the operatives attached to Ndiegoro Division Aba, arrested one Nnamani of no fixed address who robbed one Nwabuike. One LG screen touch phone was recovered. The suspect confessed to the crime and that he belongs to the three-man gang terrorizing Aba residents and its environs.
“Operatives attached to the Central Police Station, Aba, in collaboration with the National Task Force on illegal importation of goods and adulteration of products arrested Okorie who specializes in production of fake products at Eziukwu Market, Aba. Detectives also recovered three cartons of adulterated milk and the suspect confessed to the crime with others.
“A 61-year-old Onyeukwu was arrested for having unlawful carnal knowledge of a 10-year-old girl in a hotel. The girl has been taken to hospital for medical attention. He confessed to have been sleeping with the little girl for months in the hotel. The suspect will soon appear in the court.
“The police Ndiegoro Station, Aba, arrested three suspected cult members. They are Ikechukwu, Abuchi and Chidebere. They recovered one mobile phone, a black bag containing knife and broken bottles and 28 wraps of substance suspected to be cocaine. The suspects are members of Arro-verting confraternity and have confessed to the crime. They will soon be charged to court.
“The Central Police Station, Aba, arrested three suspected armed robbers along Obuohia Road by Asa Triangle, Aba, while robbing people coming back from church. The suspects are Emenike, Chukwudi and Okenua 28yrs. Two knives, one spanner, one desktop charge and handbag were recovered from them.
