Senator Clifford Ordia, has called on political actors and other stakeholders to allow members of the  National Assembly elect their presiding officers, adding that only competent senators who put the country first above selfish interests, should be elected.

Ordia represents Edo Central senatorial district and won election for a second term in the Red Chamber.

The lawmaker told Daily Sun that although lawmakers were elected on the platform of political parties, the parliament as an institution, must however be allowed to elect it’s leaders.

He said a rubber stamp Senate would derail gains recorded by the country’s democracy.

Meanwhile, the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has endorsed Senator Muhammad Danjuma Goje senate president of the Ninth Assembly.

The Council, under the leadership of Mr. Sukubo Sara’igbe, said based on the goals achieved during the Goje’s eight-year adminisrtation as Gombe governor and also, eight years as a senator, he deserves to lead the  Red Chamber.

“Achievements of the senator in terms of youth empowerment, education, health, security, agriculture etc. are unquantifiable in his sate and the nation at large’’,  the youth council president said.
