Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), Mr. Sam Saba, was reportedly abducted by armed men in military uniform while returning from Katsina State to Abuja.
It was learnt that about 15 armed men forced his black Toyota Land Cruiser Sports Utility Vehicle to a stop three kilometres to Katari Town, Kaduna State, at about 10.40pm on Monday.
The CCB chair was said to have been abducted along with two others including his driver. Their names could not be ascertained as at the time of filing this report.
Sources said Saba’s orderly, ASP Chris Usen, reported the incident at the Katari Division of the Kaduna Police Command.
The spokesman for Kaduna Command, DSP Zubairu Abubakar did not respond to calls and text messages sent to him on the issue, but the CCB Deputy Director, Press, Mr Idris Mohammed who spoke with Daily Sun on phone said: “We heard it, but we take it as a rumour for now. Please call me tomorrow (today) and I will make further contacts.”
The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Bisi Kolawole confirmed Saba’s kidnap but said he was released yesterday, “upon presure by police at about 17 00 hours.”
In a related development, a 32-year-old Chinese identified as Mr. Pan Yu, was also abducted at about 8.30am in Nasarawa State.
The victim, said to be a staff of a Chinese firm, Tongyi Allied Mining Company, was reportedly seized at Ayiwawa village in Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, while traveling from a mining site to Abuja.
The hoodlums who ambushed his vehicle, reportedly shot and killed his police escort identified as Coporal Emmanuel Solomon, attached to 38 Police Mobile Force based in Akwanga, Nasarawa State. It was learnt that the attackers carted away the cop’s AK 47 rifle.
A combined team of the military, police and operatives of the Civil Defence Corps are reportedly combing the area to rescue the Chinese according to a top security officer who confirmed both incidents.
