It was praises galore on Friday, as former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, received the plaque of The Sun Lifetime Award he won in 2015.

The former head of state was not able to personally receive the award in 2015, as his sister, who he took as a mother, died on the eve of the presentation. Ever since, he had been in one international assignment or another, making it impossible for him to receive the award plaque.

Speaking, while receiving the award, Abdulsalami expressed happiness that The Sun found him worthy for honour.

He described The Sun as a strong brand, which has contributed immensely to the socio-political development of the country.

Abdulsalami, who received the award plaque in his Ikoyi, Lagos home, in the presence of his son, Umar, praised The Sun for its robust journalism, which, he said, has kept its teeming readers informed and educated.
