The Owo Ala, Asa community in Ukwa West,  Abia State, has lauded the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) recently set up by the Presidency, for the  achievements it has recorded within the very short time it commenced work.

The community, which noted that the Committee was made up of people with integrity and pedigree, stated that the news of the order for a forensic audit of the operations of the NDDC by President Buhari was greeted with jubilations by the  community.

In a letter sent to the Acting Managing Director of the NDDC, Dr. Gbene Joi Nunieh, a copy of which was made available to the media, the community lamented that all the NDDC projects in its area were all abandoned, stressing that the community has suffered lack of infrastructural development for several years in spite of the establishment of the NDDC.

The letter which was signed by the Community Chairman, Mr. Chinwendu Adiele and Secretary Mr Akobueze Elendu outlined the abandoned projects in their community to include, the Ngwaiyiekwe – Owo Ala – Umuadienwe road, Owo Asa – Owo Ala – Obehie road, Umuokwor – Owo Ala road and a borehole which was initiated by the defunct Oil Mineral Producing Areas Development Commission (OMPADEC) that later became the NDDC more than twenty years ago.

The community said it was extremely difficult for them to access potable water, as they relied on hand pumps (popularly referred to as hyena pumps) for their water and appealed to the IMC to come to their aid.
