Organising Secretary of Abia State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Moses Ogbonna, has resigned.

In a February 18 letter of resignation addressed to the state Chairman of the party Johnson Onuigbo, Moses cited brazen acts of impunity within the party as part of the reasons he decided to resign.

“My decision is reached upon my painstaking review of the relationship between me, the governor of the state, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu and Onuigbo, which, over the period, have by several conducts, consistently exhibited loss of confidence and trust, culminating in to a deliberate and unconstitutional usurpation of my duties with impunity.

“This brazen act of impunity has led to total neglect and abandonment of the State Working Committee (SWC) and state executive of the party. The party is now being run as a one-man show and every important decisions, including on financial matters, and ratification of the results of the people, including delegate elections, were done in a hotel; without the approval of the SWC,” Ogbonna claimed in his resignation letter.

He added that things had gone out of hand to the extent that the monthly stipends that accrue to executive members and staff of the party are being owed for over six months without any effort to remedy the situation; despite repeated demands.

He went further to lament that the staff of the party have been abandoned to suffer untold hardship that the party secretariat now deserted.

Ogbonna also claimed he has been pointed out as scapegoat, due to his outspokenness against this impunity and imposition which has necessitated series of threats on my life.

He noted: “I, as Organising Secretary, have been excluded in everything that is being done in the party.

“Every message to the national headquarters that needed to emanate or sent by my office was done by the chairman.

“I, therefore, regretfully opt to resign my position as the state Organising Secretary of Abia PDP; with effect from February 18.”
