An election monitoring group, Youths for Credible Elections, has called on the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, and security agencies to probe trending video on the social media on Prof. James Ihemeje of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State.

Prof. Ihemeje, who was the Presidential and National Assembly Returning Officer for Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State, was being questioned in a video on the internet, on why he appeared alone without the laid down electoral procedure of accompanying a local government result with the local government electoral officer and security operatives to a collation centre.

In a statement  made available to newsmen, in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, and signed by the group’s Co-ordinator and Secretary, Akuagba Ezerendu and Uche Ndudim, respectively, the group urged INEC chairman and security operatives to probe the activities of Ihemeje on the said day, and, also, look into the result he presented, as it could attest to the enormous electoral frauds allegedly perpetuated against mostly President Muhammadu Buhari in the South East zone.

It recalled that it was the same Ikwuano local government that had an issue of the INEC electoral officer arrested by the police, when trying to smuggle out unclaimed voters cards in their thousands.
