Abia has recorded another six confirmed cases of Monkey Pox outbreak, bringing the total number of Monkeypox cases in the state to nine.
The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joe Osuji had in an interview last week confirmed that the state recorded four more cases of monkeypox disease.
However, a source in the ministry who did not want his name in print, told Journalists on Tuesday that the state has recorded more six cases, bringing the number of confirmed cases of MonkeyPox to nine.
Investigation revealed that the nine cases of the Monkeypox disease cut across four local government areas of the state, including Umuahia North and South, Ikwuano and Aba North Local Government Areas.
The source while listing the symptoms of the disease, urged Abians to take extra measures to protect themselves from the disease, by maintaining good hygiene, isolating from anyone who has the symptoms of the disease and urging them to go to the nearest hospital for treatment.
“Monkeypox is a viral zoonosis, that is a virus transmitted to humans from animals, monkeypox virus is most often spread through direct contact with a rash or sores of someone who has the virus.
“It can also spread through contact with clothing, bedding and other items used by a person with monkey pox, or from respiratory droplets that can be passed through prolonged face-to-face contact”.
Another Ministry of Health source hinted that the state government has done the necessary sensitization and the positive cases have been contained.
