As the world continues to make frantic efforts to fight and end the dreaded new COVID-19 currently ravaging the globe, Actors Guild of Nigeria under the leadership of Emeka Rollas has successful donated palliatives to poor and needy Nigerians in different states.

This is inline with the Guilds Corporate service to humanity in order to cushion the effect of the COVID-19 lock down.

According to Rollas, the Guild’s short term plan is to feed over 10,000 people within the 6 Geopolitical zones in Nigeria, starting with Game Village in Surulere, Lagos on Friday, April 25.

“We are going to the 6 geopolitical zones, all parts of Nigeria would be touched. We will send materials to all the chapters to distribute, he told Sun News.

“This is our own corporate social responsibility as Actors Guild of Nigeria. We principally know that there are members who are upcoming and not doing very well. So, in this lockdown we believe we have to try to cushion the effect on our members and members of the public who have actually patronized actors over the years.

That is why we started from Surulere, the hub of entertainment in Lagos and where all of us started. There is hardly any star who had spent 20 years in Nollywood that didn’t start in Surulere.

Already before now we had sent palliatives to Abuja Chapter of the Guild, Lagos State Chapter and as well ad Delta State chapter.

What we are doing now, is distribution to the public. We started with Surulere and also touched other LGAs; Ifako Ijaye and others. This is just the first phase. We plan to feed 10,000 people as soon as we get more money from our sponsors.

We are also seeking the Federal and State government partnership,” he added.

Rollas also appreciated his colleagues and three patrons who contributed immensely to the success of the first phase of AGN’s COVID-19 Community Reach Out.

“The Palliatives we disturbed today was made available by few of us and 3 of our patrons, Chief Alexander Nwokabia Ejiamatu, Chief Tony Ikpea and Deacon Ik Kalu. They donated handsomely well to what we are giving out today. Apart from that, members of our committee headed by Honourable Desmond Elliot made their personal contributions. Monalisa Chinda, Uche Elendu, Charles Inojie, Ada Ameh, Yul Edochie, Ronnie Dikko, Belinda Effah, Zack Orji, Segun Arinze, Charles Awurum, Ngozie Nwosu, Emeka Duru, KOK and lots of them. We also calling on other actors to put in their little money to help us support humanity. We bought so much food stuffs and plan to get more next week to donate to more locations,” he said.

The Chairman of AGN’s COVID-19 committee, Desmond Elliot added, ”For the sacrifice to humanity, we are here doing what is expected of us to do. One of our reasons for using Surulere is not because of me. But it is the hub of entertainment. We also going to other local government.”

The CDA Chairman of Games Village, Johnson Oguns received the food items from the Guild and on behalf of his community and expressed his profound gratitude.
